Curriculum

Our topic this term is 'Mighty Metals.' We will be basing our topic around Ted Hughes' book 'The Iron Man,' especially in our literacy lessons to make predictions about the story before writing diary extracts and newspaper reports.

In science, we will be investigating materials that are magnetic, followed by discovering how sounds are made and the difference between pitch and volume.

In history, children will be using chronology to identify the development of tools from the Stone Age through to the Iron Age. They will discover how the discovery of metal changed the way people lived.

In Design and Technology, children will explore pulley mechanisms in a bid to rescue the Iron Man from a pit!

Using maps of the UK, children will position human and physical geographical features using the correct symbols in geography.

In art, children will be exploring different artists who create sculptures before creating their own metal sculpture.

Children will be learning to programme sequences in ICT.

In RE, we will find out why Pentecost is important to Christians.

Children will be gaining an understanding of everyday emotions and how to express those feelings, as well as looking at mental health and how to develop a healthy mindset in our Wellbeing lessons.

In maths, we will be finding fractions of amounts; ordering fractions on number lines and knowing the decimal equivalents of fractions. This will be followed by measure and time.

Reading: Please continue to listen to your child read daily, even for 10 minutes, and get your child to complete the reading task in the reading journal. Books should be changed regularly. Books are changed on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Times Tables Rockstars: Regular practise TTRS will help pupils to retain knowledge that they can utilise facts in other mathematical learning. All pupils should have their login details and can play on phones or tablets! On TTRS, children can play the game 'Sound Check', which is good practise for the Year 4 times table test.
